From the point of view of conducting international business companies registered in the territory of the UAE Free Economic Zones (Free Zone) are the most profitable. The income of such companies is exempt from taxation, except for profits made in the Emirates itself which are subject to VAT at the rate of 5%, but only in respect of taxable supplies of goods or services within the UAE and outside the Free Economic Zones.

The term supply includes all forms of supplies of goods or services made by a company in the UAE for the purpose and in the course of carrying on business. Delivery within the UAE means the territory of delivery in respect of goods and the location of the recipient of services in respect of services.

As of June 1, 2023, such supplies are also expected to be subject to the new federal corporate income tax rate of 9%.

At the same time, all companies are required to produce a VAT number if the turnover exceeds 100,000 USD. Voluntary registration without penalty is possible if turnover exceeds 50,000 USD or if turnover of 50,000 USD is expected within the next 30 days.
